This is the title of a novel by Lily Brett. This very funny novel was first published in Australia in 2005. One character in the book is a buxom sixty-something woman who came from Poland to New York and loves to cook meat-balls. She tends to feel hot while she’s doing the cooking. This is why she stands in her kitchen in her beautiful, elegant bra with just an apron on top of it.
After my morning walk I felt hot again and had to strip down to my bra. I helped hubby in the kitchen with the breakfast dishes and didn’t even wear an apron on top of it! When I do this sort of thing, I’m always reminded of that boxum woman in the book.
Lily Brett is an Australian writer and lives with her Australian painter husband, David Rankin, in New York.
This is such a funny story but hey, you have to do what you have to do to be comfortable. Did your hubby say anything? Was your bra at least presentable? Perhaps this is a good excuse to make sure you have a racy red or a hot pink bra! Throw prudish thoughts out the window. Hot weather is hot weather. You don’t want to collapse from a heat stroke, right?
Hi Mary-Ann! I hope I got the name right? Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments. I just asked Peter for his opinion to your comments. He reckons he didn’t even notice I was only wearing a bra! He’s used to me wearing black bras. You’re right, maybe I should go for racy red or hot pink. Then he would notice! Ha, ha!
I’m fully dressed by now and have to catch up on some work in the house. We have here 9 am, Tuesday. I believe at yours it’s Monday afternoon. Have a nice evening!
We need pics with posts like these! 😀
Hi Munira! Maybe when I find the courage to get into racy red or hot pink then I’ll have the courage to post some pics. On the other hand I just thought maybe some pics of me in my pink swimming costume will do? I’ll try to post some such pics from our holiday in Victoria towards the end of the year. Is that a deal?
Good for you! Why not? 🙂
Have a Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂
Thank you
I hope you were only cooking porridge for your husband’s breakfast and not bacon!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. It really makes me happy to know that my words are being appreciated right over on the other side of the world! I enjoy reading your posts too – the world is such a small place after all.
Best wishes, Pam 🙂
Hi Pam!
Thanks for visiting and thanks for your best wishes. I find it very stimulating to read many different blogs. Sometimes I wished I had more time for it. Peter and I are pensioners. So how come we’re always running out of time?
Anyhow, there was no bacon to cook that morning. Peter had already prepared porridge and coffee for breakfast. He voluntarily takes over kitchen duties whenever I go out for my early morning walk with Irene, my neighbour. So I only helped with the serving and soon cooled down enough to get dressed properly! This book by Lily Brett, where she writes about the buxom Polish woman, is very funny. I loved it!
Best wishes, Uta.
You and Lily Brett have made me chuckle. Just what I need tonight. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it, dear Pat. Big bosoms can be a bit bothersome at times!
I imagine that’s true but I can’t speak from experience.
