A town called Hay

We had come from Gundagai along the Hume Highway.  After a little while we turned into Sturt Highway where we went past Wagga Wagga. Then we reached Narrandera for our overnight stop. The next morning we were on our way along Sturt Highway towards the town of Hay. Before we left Narrandera we had to make sure that we ended on the right Highway, for we noticed all of a sudden that our motel had actually been on the Newell Highway and not on the Sturt Highway. There was a beutifully situated Information Centre on our way out where we found some toilets or should I say  some facilities?

This building in Hay is still being occupied by a bank as far a we could tell.

It was such a beautiful morning with a clear blue sky. We sat outside this shop were we were being served a nice cup of tea..

Above the shop counter it said: “Bringing the tastes of an outback experience to you.” So this was an outback experience. They also wanted us to enjoy

a long paddock experience whatever this is!

We thought this balustrade looked magnificent.

So it looks like that Hay is just a few years older than NARRANDERA!

Before we left Hay we had some gelato in a place that was crowded with seniors. It looks like a lot of retirees live in Hay. They told us more and more come because properties are still very affordable if you compare it with what you have to fork out for a place in a coastal town. They have just opened a hospital in Hay that is especially geared towards the needs of elderly people. But if you need an operation you have to be transferred to another town. This hospital in Hay doesn’t cater for operations.

  1. Great to visit and see these old Australian towns Auntyuta, so much history is packed into these little towns, beautiful to know the old bank is still being maintained in its original form.
    Cheers girl.

    1. I am always glad too to see old buildings being preserved, Ian. We noticed today that David Jones in Sydney are celebrating their 175th Anniversary.
.For Sydney this is quite a bit of history!
Peter had today a dental appointment in Sydney. He was happy I went with him on that trip. We left at 7,40 in the morning and were already back home by two in the afternoon. Our train was delayed by half an hour because of signal failures in Kiama. So we had to go by car to Waterfall. We caught there a local train which got us to Martin Place at 9,45. Peter rushed off then for his 10 am dental appointment while I did a few things on my own. I went for instance to Martin Place PO to send off a Birthday Card for David, whom we cannot see this week. David’s birthday is on the 8th. I wrote to David we’re going to see him as soon as possible. This week our car is due for registration. On Mother’s Day we’re going to see the family and on the 16th of this month is Peter’s birthday. On that day we are probably going to see a theater performance in Sydney.
The shop windows at David Jones’ still look very glamorous, decorations for Mothers’ Day gifts! Had coffee and cake with Peter at a German bakery. Only an hour after Peter had his teeth done he was already able to eat some cake!
Hope you and Ana are well. Cheerio, Uta.
