We saw this movie yesterday, on Monday. It is adapted from an award winning novel with the same titel. Here is what can be found in google:

It is a very dramatic love story. Expressions of joy seem to come very naturally to the Nigerian people. The movie starts in the 1960s. Soon the whole country suffers from the outbreak of civil war. The war scenes are absolutely shocking. I cannot help it, I have to ask myself, why, why, why do people fight like this?

But the movie was not just about war. It was about human relationships and the life of people in Nigeria which ordinarily I think we really do not know much about. I was very moved by the way the scenes were shot and the great performances of the actors.

  1. I didn’t know the movie was out yet. Can’t wait to see it. I loved the book. The author has come to my town to speak. She’s a wonderfully warm, articulate, and humble person.

    1. We were lucky, Linda, that we could see the movie in our local cinema. It was really worth watching. Hope you can see it some time soon.

  2. I haven’t heard of this movie, Uta, but it sounds really interesting. I would definitely agree with you that at least I can say I don’t know much about the Nigerian people. So often we know a political structure but very little about the people themselves. Thank you for a charming review. I’m going to pay attention and see if it’s available here.

    1. Thanks for your interest, dear Debra. Having seen the movie, I would very much like to read the book. I have to see whether I can get it as an e-book.Linda (Rangewriter) says she loved the book. And the author of that book came to her town!
