Auntie, Sister. Grandmother, Great-Grandmother,
Mother and Wife of German Descent
I've lived in Australia since 1959 together with my husband Peter. We have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I started blogging because I wanted to publish some of my childhood memories. I am blogging now also some of my other memories. I like to publish some photos too as well as a little bit of a diary from the present time. Occasionally I publish a story with a bit of fiction in it. Peter, my husband, is publishing some of his stories under berlioz1935.wordpress.com

Thank you, Aunty Uta, for showing us this series of videos. The meaninglessness is not so much in our personal lives but in the meaninglessness of our societies. Sure, if our societies have no meanings then our personal meanings are diminished too. The influence of society is powerful, but we can escape and give our own life some meaning.
Today, society is only a mishmash of industrial canon fodder. The “freedom of the market” has stripped us of our individualities and bound us all into a conglomerate of workers and consumers and like the bees, we are constantly stripped of the honey we produce.
I have watched now all episodes in this six part series about the meaninglessness of modern life. What Pria Viswalingam .shows us in this series from 2006 still very much applies to our lives. in our Western culture. Perhaps one could argue that in the meantime a lot more people have become enslaved by their work or, what is perhaps even worse, have lost their jobs, finding it very difficult obtaining another job. Especially, some young people have so far never been able to get a job.except maybe a very casual, very low paid job
The market does not care whether everyone gets a chance for further education or employment..Experimenting with alcohol, smoking and drugs .is on the increase, especially by the very young… Marriages are getting fewer, but still divorces are on the increase. On top of this people do live longer and longer lives.
So what does it mean, if we all live longer?
How many very old people are happy with their lives?.
I think that this series does not give any answers,. But it raises the very important question:What do we need for a happy life?
Thank you for this video, sad reflection of the reality, but there is hope!
Thanks for your comment, dear Yor.
