Childhood Memories, Copy 1 Minute

This year the fourth Sunday of Advent and Christmas Eve fall onto the same day. So Christmas Eve is going to arrive very quickly this year! 🙂

I love the memories about the Advent Sundays during my childhood. Here I copy some of the memories:

A few years ago I mentioned ‘kokeln’ in one of my posts. I wrote:

‘At this time of the year memories keep coming back about how we celebrated the Advents Sundays during the late 1930s and early 1940s. During those years we always had an ‘Adventskranz’ with four, thick, usually red, candles. On each Advent Sunday one more candle would be lighted. The ‘Kranz’ was made up of fresh fir-tree branches. When we sat down with one, two, three or four candles lit, my little brother and I would be allowed to do some ‘kokeln’, but of course always under supervision by Mum. ‘Kokeln’ would mean that Mum gave us a beautiful fresh twig of the fir-tree branches to hold over a burning candle. This made a fantastic smell. Oh, how we loved this smell. I could tell, Mum loved it too. This quickly brought us into the mood to sing some Christmas songs.’

Yes, the smell was fantastic!

    Vielen vielen Dank für die schöne Weihnachtskarte!!! The last and only snail mail, how very nice!
    Was gab es bei euch zu essen?
    Astrid hat eine tolle Spezialwurst mitgebracht zu Walters Weihnachtsdinner mit Gambas und Kaninchen. Jetzt haben wir alle tolle Würste im Laden gesucht und gefunden.
    Ich bin mir aber mit Carlso einig dass man eignetlich Tiere nicht essen sollte weil sie intellligent und goldig sind oder die Kühe sehr sozial udn ihre Freunde vermissen, wenn sie plötzlich weg sind! Wir haben also viel vor, was zum Ersatz finden.
    Ich wünsche dir viel Gesundheit und ein schönes neues Jahr!!! Bussi und hugs ❤

      Dein comment landete in spam. Aber es war mir möglich to save it. Ich bin sehr froh darüber. Es freut mich, daß die snail mail bei dir angekommen ist.
      Ich esse sehr wenig Fleisch. Aber die Spezialwurst hätte mir sicher auch gut geschmeckt. Wir trafen uns dieses Jahr wie immer on Christmas Eve. Aber wir gingen zum Dinner in den nahe gelegenen Club. Somit wurde viel Hausarbeit vermieden. Die Leute, die nach dem Dinner noch zu mir kamen, fanden es bei mir zu Weihnachten schöner als in dem Club! Und ihr habt also mit Walter sehr schön Weihnachten gefeiert. 🙂
      Ich wünsche euch allen einen guten Rutsch. Vielleicht kann Peter mich mit seinem phone bald wieder anrufen. Das wäre schön! 🙂
      Zur Zeit denke ich, ich könnte ganz allein noch einmal nach Berlin fliegen. Na, mal sehen.
      Zu meinem 90 Geburtstag möchte ich mit der Fanilie eine Cruise machen! Nach meinem Geburtstag werde ich dann vielleicht nur noch in Dapto bleiben.
