From Alexanderplatz to Am Steinberg

This looked like a pretty boring place
We took the next tram back to Alexanderplatz Peter said: Let’s go to the Kaufhof
There was lots to see in this Kaufhof Shopping Centre called GALERIA am Alexanderplatz

Best of all was, I could find some toilets there. On the fifth floor there was also the DINEA that Ilse had recommended to us.

We had some refreshing Mineral Water
Also coffee and cake with fresh cream
I liked the colourful displays
He took off on his scooter before I could capture him
We negotiated our way back to the ground-floor via escalators
Outside we liked to rest here for a bit

interesting decorations surrounded us

The huge ceiling was something to be admired
Here were a variety of espresso coffee cups with Berlin motives on them. We bought some!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the photos, Debra. This shopping center has aspects of great architecture. What I glanced of some of the displays they looked colorful and artistic to me. I think we’re going to like the espresso cups we bought there in passing. We got them at at discount too!
The DINEA was patronized by a lot of elderly people. Maybe it reminds them of similar places from times gone by. It’s self serve, however there’s proper cutlery and crockery! Tables and seating set out in an individual way with pleasant lighting and artful decorations everywhere. The best thing is, it’s low priced because they seem to have a huge turnover. Our fruitcake with fresh cream was a delight to eat.

  1. Oh, so you are still in Berlin. Oh, jealous! Sounds wonderful, Aunty Uta. I remember having mineral water from the spring direct. It was tingling, wonderful. I do wonder why it’s not like that in the bottles, you know, in the real thing. Anyway…

    Wonderful travels 🙂

    1. Thanks, Noeleen. We’ve been in Berlin for two weeks now. (This leaves another eight weeks before we return to Australia!) In a few days I’ll be doing a bit of travelling away from Berlin with my brother and his wife to meet some of our cousins. So far our extended family has been keeping us quite busy. But we also did a few things by ourselves as you can see from my blogs. Just now we’ve returned from seeing my niece and her family. This was a very enjoyable visit. Now we’re ready to spend a relaxing evening in our apartment. It’s great that we have our own place.
It’s rather small but excellent as a holiday place and very conveniently right in the midst of the city. Every day we can go for lovely walks in a beautiful park across the road. There are lifts to our apartment. We usually don’t use any but walk up the 38 steps to our floor. This is indeed very good exercise for us. Best way to keep fit. We’re happy that both Peter and I don’t suffer any more cold symptoms.
Hope you and Daniel are feeling well now too. Have a great Sunday!
      Love, Aunty Uta

    1. Thanks for this lovely comment, dear Aussie Emu. We’ve been shopping a few more souvenirs in the meantime. And we have another eight weeks before we go back to Australia! That means, we really have to slow down buying souvenirs and books. Otherwise the stuff won’t fit into our suitcases!

  2. Looks like a fun trip my friend. What a fascinating store with so much colors and interesting items. Whenever I go somewhere that calls for long walking, coffee is a must as well. Have a blessed weekend.

    1. There’s good public transport in Berlin, but we also do a lot of walking all the time. It’s important for us to rest and relax after having been out for a few hours. Thanks for your comment and have a good weekend too, dear IT.
