Have you fed your household spirits? Word of warning…you might want to think about that!

For more than a week I have certainly been preoccupied. It’s been almost impossible to find even small snippets of available time to post personal updates or spend any significant time visiting others.

Looking back, I think my troubles started while we were still at the beach. I just didn’t acknowledge him.

Broken Chair

I’ll explain.

Last week Kate Shrewsday introduced me to the Domovoi.  This little house spirit, according to Slavic folklore, serves, among his many roles, as the keeper of peace and order in a home. He typically lives under the threshold, or maybe under the stove, but we didn’t know. Apparently he’s sensitive, and sadly we’ve been ignoring him.

Had we been more aware, we might have benefitted from his potential good will. He rewards a well-maintained household. He likes peace and order, you see.  Lately I’ve felt we could work a little harder at that.

  1. Very interesting posts, both this and the one by Kate Shrewsbury. There’s no doubt that many homes have an “atmosphere” – positive or negative, welcoming or unfriendly. And of course, here in the UK we have an awful lot of haunted houses! My mother sometimes sees and hears people here in our house – but that’s usually when she’s dehydrated, stressed and has an infection. They go away when she takes antibiotics 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comment, Cat. I agree with what you say about the “atmosphere” of the home.

Here is what Debra says about ‘breathing lighter’:

      “Who is breathing lighter?
Originally there were three of us behind breathinglighter. But life sometimes intervenes with the best of plans, and now there’s just me…Debra. I have reached a time in my life when I can easily pursue what interests me the most, and as an eclectic soul, I’m never at a loss for things to do. I love to read and garden, enjoy time with my family, in particular two beautiful granddaughters, and explore Southern California. I’m a native Californian with a passion for history, and I spend as much time as possible learning more about the story of the region.

Keeping an active mind and following my curiosity is what also reduces stress and assures that I’m breathing lighter! I hope you’ll feel welcome to come along at any time. I enjoy sharing.”

I follow ‘breathelighter’, Debra’s blog. I found Debra’s story about what happened to her recently so well written that I wanted to reblog it and Debra gave me permission to do it.

I must admit so far I had only read Debra’s post and not Kate Shrewsday’s as well. Debra lives in Southern California whereas Kate seems to be familiar with the UK.

I believe we are very influenced by our surroundings as well as by our state of health. Do we not think that if we inhabit a particular dwelling at a particular time any occurrences can be regarded as having to do with this dwelling we happen to be in?
