The Vitami D Council tells you how vitamin D relates to your health.
One question and answer is:
“Can I get sun exposure and take supplements?
Yes. In fact, that is the Vitamin D Council’s recommendation. On days that you do not get enough full body sun exposure, it is important to take a supplement. For most people on the Monday-Friday indoor work schedule, that means taking a supplement 5-6 days a week and getting sun exposure on a day or two during the weekend.”
Have a look what else the Vitamin D Council recommends:
Auntie, Sister. Grandmother, Great-Grandmother,
Mother and Wife of German Descent
I've lived in Australia since 1959 together with my husband Peter. We have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I started blogging because I wanted to publish some of my childhood memories. I am blogging now also some of my other memories. I like to publish some photos too as well as a little bit of a diary from the present time. Occasionally I publish a story with a bit of fiction in it. Peter, my husband, is publishing some of his stories under berlioz1935.wordpress.com

I was found to have very low Vitamin D at the end of last winter. I took a supplement for three months and the levels came up to normal range.
Some years ago a blood-test showed I was at the bottom end of normal range for Vitamin D. My doctor advised me to take Ostelin. I think I took it during the winter months. I told myself most of the year in Australia I am able to get enough sun. This is why I did not take Ostelin all the time and follow up blood-test showed my Vitamin D levels to be within the ‘normal’ range. Having read up a bit on Vitamin D now I am of the opinion that it would be very beneficial for my health to have somewhat higher levels of Vitamin D. I do try to expose my skin to the sun as much as possible. Still, I made up my mind now, that I should also buy some supplements. I realise, I cannot always get sufficient sun. When there isn’t enough sun, I should definitely take the supplements, right?
