Ilse’s Visit in 1999

Peter’s sister Ilse lives in Berlin. In 1999 she came to visit us here in Australia. She stayed for two months: From the end of February to the beginning of April. Caroline, who was twenty at the time,  had already given up her studies at Sydney University. She had a job as a waitress in a Pizza Restaurant in Kiama. Being already a good car-driver, she had no problem driving home in the dark after work. Ilse was very fond of Caroline. We went on a lot of outings with Ilse, and Caroline did often come along with us.

Ilse was still in mourning for her husband who had died a year previously. But she liked her stay here with us. I thought it was great to have her around. She is a beautiful person to get along with. She was happy to meet all our family during her two months stay here. She very much cared for all of them. When she left, she said she’d like very much to come back for another visit.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Robert. Ilse came visiting a few times over the years. She loves all the outings we can do here in our area of Australia. And she is always a wonderful companion for Peter and me.

  1. It’s wonderful that you have not only some wonderful family memories, but you have the photos to bring the family close. My old photos are so disorganized I don’t really enjoy them. You inspire me to do a little better with that project! 🙂

    1. Sadly our photos are not very well organised either. But I found now a few more photos from 1999 as well as some photos of Ilse’s visit in 2001. Her last visit here was in 2007. So I’ll do my best to publish some more photos of all the visits. I think you are going to enjoy digging out some of your photos. You are right photos like these bring the family close. 🙂

  2. Having visitors from overseas is always enjoyable. It means we are getting out and showing off our beautiful region, the Illawarra and the neighbouring Highlands.

  3. Thanks Ian, I think so too: A tranquil place of relaxation that soothes the soul. And this in the midst of a busy city with heaps of skyscrapers! 🙂
