Today would have been my father’s birthday. He would have been 110 years today!
Ilse, Peter’s sister, celebrates today her 80th birthday. Happy Birthday to you, dear Ilse!
Peter had to be in Wollongong this morning to pick up a Holter Monitor to get his blood pressure measured for 24 hours. That means tomorrow at 9,30 am he has to return the monitor. We had a very good morning in Wollongong after Peter had got the monitor fixed to his body. We went for a lovely walk along the shoreline and took heaps of pictures. Most of the time it was a bit sunny. Perfect for a walk on a pleasant autumn morning.
We found a parking spot further up from where we had a good view towards the harbour.
Instead of coffee we chose to get some ice cream.
A bit of Wollongong history
Some firemen were around in this beautiful area. We saw some more of them later on. They seemed to be getting instructions as part of their training. We remember the time when these apartments were being built. In the meantime many, many more apartments have been built. A lot of them are high rise buildings. Here comes the free shuttle bus around the corner. There’s a bus stop in front of this beautiful apartment building.
Tomorrow when we are in Wollongong again we want to park our car near North Wollongong Beach and take a walk in that area. If we had a Million or so we would like to buy an apartment in Wollongong and live there! Still, it’s nice to go there for a visit. The walks and the views are free for everyone! 🙂

I've lived in Australia since 1959 together with my husband Peter. We have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I started blogging because I wanted to publish some of my childhood memories. I am blogging now also some of my other memories. I like to publish some photos too as well as a little bit of a diary from the present time. Occasionally I publish a story with a bit of fiction in it. Peter, my husband, is publishing some of his stories under berlioz1935.wordpress.com

It is nice to see that after the GFC the then Labor government introducing the Stimulus Plan. They did something for the enjoyment of all and not only a disgusting tax rebate for the rich. An economic stimulus should always be introduced at the bottom, because from there the money is being circulated. Good on you, Kevin Rudd!
Danke, Gislinde, Wir haben hier zur Zeit sehr schönes Herbst Wetter. Hoffe, du hast auch recht schönes Frühlingswetter mit viel Sonnenschein. Liebe Grüsse, Uta 🙂
“The foreshore will be a significant destination where locals and tourists celebrate the beautiful natural environment and the heritage port. Pedestrian promenades, cycleways, foreshore parks, outdoor cafes and entertainment facilities will be developed to increase foreshore use and visitation.”
“The Blue Mile will become a high quality, popular and beautiful open space area that links the city centre to its magnificent foreshore, and provides a substantially enhanced amenity for residents and visitors.”
Hi Robert, you ask what the Heritage Walk is. I can only go by what I find in the Wollongong website. Above here I copied a bit of the council’s website.
The historical harbour pictures that are displayed near the foreshore tell us what the place looked like in the late 1800s and early 1900s!
The photo that was taken in 1896 of a Coroborree scene I find also very interesting.
Maybe if we all club together we could get that million and share an apartment at that beach! It looks lovely. I always love seeing the harbours of places when we’re on holiday. I think I must have been a mermaid in a previous life 🙂 I hope Peter’s heart monitoring went well and the doctors are pleased with the results.
Yes, Pam, wouldn’t this be nice! I reckon this little harbour looks very beautiful. We always love to go there for a walk.
Peter returned the monitor this morning, the results he’ll get to know next week. The doctor always wants to increase Peter’s prescription drugs, but Peter thinks it is not necessary. His blood pressure only goes up when he sees the doctor! Well, we’ll see what the monitor says.
Hi Uta, enjoyed your pics, especially the before and after ones of the foreshore.
The Aboriginal ones were definitely staged, as true Aboriginals do not normally dress like that, the breast plate was an idea of politicians at that time.
Regards
Ian
Hi Ian, I am glad I could catch these historical pics with my camera. This Mickey Johnson was apparently born in 1834, one hundred years before I was born! I have no idea why he was given this breastplate or why he was called King Mickey.

I guess you are right, Berlioz, the money needs to be circulated for an economy to thrive.
So schöne Bilder liebe Grüße und einen schönen Dienstag wünsche ich dir.Gruß Gislinde

Uta, thanks for the bit of history. What is the Heritage Walk?

It seems you had a great day. Love that ice-cream 🙂
Yes, Elizabeth, this ice-cream was a welcome little treat. 🙂
