I think this is a fascinating article in the International Spiegel. How could it come to these ‘misunderstandings’ between Europe and Russia? There is a war in the Ukraine now. Why?

Auntie, Sister. Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Mother and Wife of German Descent I've lived in Australia since 1959 together with my husband Peter. We have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I started blogging because I wanted to publish some of my childhood memories. I am blogging now also some of my other memories. I like to publish some photos too as well as a little bit of a diary from the present time. Occasionally I publish a story with a bit of fiction in it. It’s all a game, Aunty. And these big guys have chosen to play it in the Ukraine.
Yes, Mary-Ann. I am also very worried about tensions in he Middle East.
I reckon we do need desperately some genuine peace makers.
Yes, but the only way for it to work is if there is a genuine desire/need to compromise and meet halfway.

Greetings from Australia,

Tough to think of lives and livelihoods getting caught up in the power struggle. Great link.
I hope, Renee, that this power struggle can eventually lead to a lasting peace. Thanks for commenting!
You should really have a look at this article, which describes what was really a fascist coup the US instigated to overturn Ukraine’s democratically elected government to install fascist pro-US, pro-EU government. The US State Department spent more than $5 billion to make this happen: http://consortiumnews.com/2014/02/23/neocons-and-the-ukraine-coup/
Thank you very much, Stuart, for this link to this article about what happened in the Ukraine.
It says in this article:
” . . . . Obama, with only a few exceptions, has been unwilling to
confront the hardliners or even fully articulate his foreign policy vision publicly.”
Robert Parry writes in the first paragraph the following:
“More than five years into his presidency, Barack Obama has failed to take full control over his foreign policy, allowing a bureaucracy shaped by long years of Republican control and spurred on by a neocon-dominated U.S. news media to frustrate many of his efforts to redirect America’s approach to the world in a more peaceful direction.”
It seems to me that for as long as the neocons dominate all the decision making in the US we do hope in vain for a more peaceful world.
In the article is something about Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Victoria Nuland and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt,:
“Nuland also favored the UN as mediator over the European Union, at which point in the conversation she exclaimed, “Fuck the E.U.” to which
Pyatt responded, “Oh, exactly …” ‘
