I feel I can learn a real lot from this blog. The author writes very well in a clear, easy to understand language. I am very interested to understand more about the Nazi area and the Nazis and the present increase in right extremism and how maybe it can be brought to a halt.

Israeli Weimar: It Can Happen Here

“Please don’t write about Ya’ir Golan!” a friend begged me, “Anything a leftist like you writes will only harm him!”

So I abstained for some weeks. But I can’t keep quiet any longer.

General Ya’ir Golan, the deputy Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, made a speech on Holocaust Memorial Day. Wearing his uniform, he read a prepared, well-considered text that triggered an uproar which has not yet died down.

Dozens of articles have been published in its wake, some condemning him, some lauding him. Seems that nobody could stay indifferent.

The main sentence was: “If there is something that frightens me about the memories of the Holocaust, it is the knowledge of the awful processes which happened in Europe in general, and in Germany in particular, 70, 80, 90 years ago, and finding traces of them…

  1. This IS a very well written article. And it gives me the shivers. Not only could it happen in Israel, but what about America? We are undergoing a political shit storm of immense proportions. ‘…how could it happen that Germany, perhaps the most cultured nation on earth at the time, the homeland of Goethe, Beethoven and Kant, could democratically elect a raving psychopath like Adolf Hitler as its leader?’ I could replace America and the great names and it would apply here as well.

    1. Linda, I think it is very sad that people may not be willing to learn from history.. On the internet one can find a lot of information by people who studied all the relevant subjects. giving out plenty of warnings where exaggerated right right wing politics might lead to.
      Could the internet save us or will it be used in future to brainwash people a certain way? It gives me the shivers too.just thinking that all this political shit could be repeated.

      1. Internet brainwashing is not just a possibility, it is reality. I’m very aware of it because I’m on Facebook and am astounded by the s–t people post, share, and BELIEVE! Very frightening, indeed.
