Today starts a new month, the month of February. Last weekend Caroline and Matthew came to see us. It was a very hot weekend. The outside temperature went to nearly 40C at times. On Monday, the 30th, we even had an outside temperature of 42C. Amazingly we could keep the inside temperature at 32C, even though we do not have any air-conditioning.
The last few days in January I still took some more pictures which I insert here now.

Last weekend Peter baked a beautiful cake with almond meal, a lot of eggs and a very tasty filling made with custard, butter and blackcurrant jam.
Peter puts the finishing touches to his cake.
Caroline and Matthew loved this cake!
This is a cold meal on a hot day: Brathering with vinegar sauce, lettuce and cold potatoes. This is another cold meal we had: Red cabbage salad, potatoes and feta cheese.

I've lived in Australia since 1959 together with my husband Peter. We have four children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I started blogging because I wanted to publish some of my childhood memories. I am blogging now also some of my other memories. I like to publish some photos too as well as a little bit of a diary from the present time. Occasionally I publish a story with a bit of fiction in it. Peter, my husband, is publishing some of his stories under berlioz1935.wordpress.com

Peter’s cake looks very good. Would he share the recipe, do you think?
Yea, Yvonne, this cake was really good. Peter used 300g almond meal, 200g sugar, 1 heaped tablespoon of baking powder, 6 eggs and 6 tablespoons of semolina. The filling made it nice moist. The cake can be kept in the fridge for several days!
We bought half a red cabbage for 1,50 $, Gerard. This was a reduced price. However, the cabbage was still very crisp and fresh and good to eat raw. We used a bit of that cabbage salad for several meals, There is still a bit left, which we can cook and eat with some potatoes and Bratwurst. I had added a whole apple to the cabbage!
How about the Bratherring, Gerard? Do you like fried herring with a lot of vinegar? We thought it was delicious!

Beautiful flowers, Uta! Soon spring will be here.
While you are looking forward to spring, Robert, we here in Australia are looking forward to the end of a very hot summer.
The red cabbage with apples is one of our favourites, Uta.
