Excellent series of interviews – thank you, Uta. Very sobering perspectives.
“Ignorance is bliss, for a short time, until it hits!” This is what Chomsky says.
I agree Cat, he gives us a very sobering perspective. I wonder, whether perhaps most people do not want to get to know about all this. Maybe they think for as long as they do not take much notice of it, things are more or less staying the way they are right now. This beautiful standard of living that we have achieved, why scare ourselves with it that it could perhaps all be lost? Maybe if we do not think about the bad things that could happen, they wont happen! Yes, wishful thinking. I mean there are things that mankind could do to make the bad things a bit less bad for humans. But that takes effort and wisdom and being prepared to think alternatively. How many people think it is absolutely necessary to go there? It seems to me that so far too many people just do not want to think about it too much, not yet anyway because so far, most of us in the developed world, are not hurting very much yet, And the rich, ah well the very rich, they believe that nothing can ever going to hurt them and that they’ll be able to increase their wealth into eternity!
