COVID-19 has forced a re-evaluation of nearly every aspect of how we fight for social and ecological justice. Yet, when it comes to the issue of climate change it can seem as if the virus has changed everything without changing anything at all. I’m so glad I’m old and not young at this time!
“. . . when it comes to the issue of climate change it can seem as if the virus has changed everything without changing anything at all. . .”
I keep thinking, Cat, that how is it, that with all the changes the virus has brought, society as a whole is still reluctant to cut back on everything. If old people cannot find it in them to change their ways, I wonder, how many younger people are aware at this time that cutting back is essential for survival?
I am amazed that a lot of vibrant life loving people, for instance in England, rather spend a beautiful warm, sunny day at an overcrowded beach rather than thinking of this very dangerous virus that could infect them at large gatherings like these. Are they not like lemmings, really?
Being old, actually very old, I do not think there is much I have to be afraid of. But I am very, very concerned not just about my descendants, but about humanity overall.
