I am upset that nuclear waste dumps are needed at all. But to want to have one on traditional Aboriginal land I find outrageous!
The Northern Land Council did not obtain traditional Aboriginal owners’ consent or consult with them before nominating sacred land in the Northern Territory for a nuclear waste dump, a court has heard.
The council – set up to help Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory manage their traditional lands – nominated a section of Muckaty Station as the location of the waste dump in 2007.
Traditional landowners have opposed the move for almost a decade, many of whom say Muckaty Station is a sacred site for various traditional ceremonies, including male initiation ceremonies, on a site called Karakara.
Plans to acquire the land for the dump have been halted ever since, pending the outcome of a long-awaited legal challenge. The case, expected to go for five weeks, began in the Federal Court in Melbourne on Monday.

Ja, es geht mir gut obwohl es hier nun winterlich kalt ist. Dafür habt ihr ordentlich viel Hitze. Wir hörten, dass es In Berlin, wo unsere Verwandten sind, über Pfingsten auch schrecklich heiss war.
Dieser Artikel, den ich hier reblogged habe, sagt, dass man auf Land, das rechtsmässig den Aborigines zugesprochen wurde, einen Nuclear Waste Dump einrichten will.
Warum will man ausgerechnet auf dem Stück Land, das ‘traditional aboriginal landowners’ zugesprochen bekommen haben, den nuklearen Abfall deponieren?! Manche Sachen verstehe ich einfach nicht.
Aber die Sache ist jetzt vor Gericht gekommen. Ich hoffe, dass die traditionellen Landbesitzer recht bekommen werden, so dass ihr bisschen Land frei von nuklearem Abfall bleiben kann.
