Towards the End of November 2015

Last Wednesday we went to Merrylands.

It was a very hot day. We had lunch in Stockland Merrylands and a cup of coffee later on.

We found a seat in the shade in the open air cafe.

Many things had changed since we last had been in Merrylands with Gaby. But we noticed that the Heart to Heart Cafe was still there.

Next to the upstairs eating hall we found this mosaic.

  1. It could have well been the last time we have been to Merrylands. Shopping centres are now what the cathedrals used to be in a big city. This new shopping centre is huge and the believers in consumerism are able to pay homage to Mammon.

    1. It used to be so simple. Now it means driving, finding parking than a walk through miles of shops offering goods that most of us already have, or if we don’t have it, totally unnecessary junk that ends up on the nature strip within a short time. Most people cannot fight this level of consumerism and are in the pockets of Westfield for the rest of their lives.
And we wonder about domestic violence!

Bring back the milkman and baker!

      1. Thanks for commenting, Gerard.

What we bought that day, we paid in cash. It was only a simple lunch, coffee, cake and bread to take home. We were not in the mood yet to buy anything for Christmas. So far we never did take up a loan to buy stuff for Christmas. We tend to buy things we can afford easily. We feel we do not have to compete with people who can afford to buy more than we do.

When we arrived in Merrylands, we were aiming to be for our appointment at the Police Station by 12 o’clock. We were not sure, where we could park. It was already very hot. We wanted to stay in Merrylands for a while and have also some lunch there, which would remind us of all the times when we were there with our daughter Gaby. So Peter thought it would be best to park the car under cover in the shopping centre. And this is what we did.

      1. Just as well we made the effort to collect these items. The Coroner’s inquiry was some six months ago. They said we could pick up the things after that. And now we did. All the people at court, including the coroner and the police were very friendly towards us. Only good things were said about our daughter.
I am glad that all this has come to a closure now. 🙂

  2. Gaby used to love to do her grocery shopping at Franklins in Merrylands Shopping Centre. And she was very proud that she and her dog were included in this big mosaic of pictures.
