The great toilet battle – Does Bill Gates have a solution? | DW Documentary

A toilet revolution is set to bring much-needed change when it comes to human waste. Each day, a single person produces one liter of urine and 200 grams of feces. In many places, feces is flushed down the toilet using around six liters of water, generating millions of tons of waste. Globally, the issue presents major health and environmental challenges, because this waste has to be processed and disposed of. Reducing toilets’ immense water consumption is the focus of a good deal of research. The goal is almost completely dry toilets. Bill Gates is among those concerned about the problem. The philanthropist has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in new technologies designed to be more efficient and ecological than traditional flushing toilets. One central question in the research is that of bad odors. Scientists have begun a global effort to figure out how toilet stink can be decoded at the molecular level and eliminated using science. Feces has a special composition that generates its unpleasant odor. This in turn has a warning function, as drinking water contaminated with feces can transmit cholera, hepatitis A and typhoid. These diseases kill hundreds of thousands of children worldwide every year. In India, open defecation is a major public health hazard. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to put an end to this habit with the “Swachh Bharat” or “Clean India” Mission. Basic sanitation has become a political issue, and millions of dry toilets are planned throughout the country. When it comes to dealing with human waste, the idea of recycling crops up again and again. In times of water scarcity and more conscious waste management, the possibilities of turning excrement and urine into electricity or fertilizer are gaining importance.

This is where the Gratitude Bell is. There is a great view from up there. This is where the Gratitude Bell is. There is a great view from up there.

When you chime the bell you are supposed to think with gratitude of your ancestors. I remember when I once walked to the bell in summer, I got very hot. Last Wednesday in the midst of August, I had no problem walking up to the bell. I do love the bell’s sound. It spreads far and wide over the surrounding area.

A Most Immoral Act

This is what I thought was worth reading in 2014. I think, it is still worth reading!

In a lifelong experience of following politics I have, until now, never witnessed children being horse traded, and senators being blackmailed, for the passing of legislation. In this case to reintroduce Temporary Protection Visas.

It looks as though Immigration Minister Scott Morrison (and the senators) have taken the yes side on the ageless Christian ethical dilemma “Does the end justify the means”.

It is a fascination to me as to why people assume that religion has some form of monopoly on morality. And even worse, they pretend to speak on Gods behalf in dispensing it.

Morrison said:

“I will not take moral lectures from Bill Shorten or Sarah Hanson-Young when it comes to border protection on that or any other issues,’’

Abbott said:

“So this is a win…

1) Crimea is Russian forever:

It was an event of special significance for the country and the people, because Crimea is where our people live, and the peninsula is of strategic importance for Russia as the spiritual source of the development of a multifaceted but solid Russian nation and a centralised Russian state. It was in Crimea, in the ancient city of Chersonesus or Korsun, as ancient Russian chroniclers called it, that Grand Prince Vladimir was baptised before bringing Christianity to Rus.

In addition to ethnic similarity, a common language, common elements of their material culture, a common territory, even though its borders were not marked then, and a nascent common economy and government, Christianity was a powerful spiritual unifying force that helped involve various tribes and tribal unions of the vast Eastern Slavic world in the creation of a Russian nation and Russian state. It was thanks to this…

Uta’s Diary

It is Sunday. late afternoon, So the weekend is nearing its end. I plan on enjoying ME TIME tonight. I feel, I very much need a lot of ME TIME right now. To recharge my batteries so to speak. This is probably because over the course of a week or so I had plenty of interaction. Maybe, to accommodate a lot of different people over just a few days can stress me out a bit too much. I feel I have to interact with a great number of people. In one of the relationship videos, I have been looking at recently, I think it said, for a good close relationship you need only about five people. Any more people than that, would have to stay on your outer circle. Well, it might be good for me, to think about this a bit more, and then come to a decision, how…
