~ Social Distancing? No Problem ~

The great crisis of our generation came almost out of nowhere. It was just after the turn of the new year when reports of a novel coronavirus spreading through China started appearing in the media. At first it seemed like something very far away – a drama unfolding in the far east, something similar to the outbreak of SARs virus a few years before that quickly petered out into nothing. I guess it was that sort of scenario which people expected again. After all, we were a generation who was regularly being told the world was about to end: swine flu, bird flu, ebola, the climate crisis, Donald Trump – we had read about our imminent destruction many times before as editors fervently created sensational headlines to shift newspapers. Ich lebe zwar fernab von Europa, aber es ist meine kulturelle Heimat und wird es immer bleiben. In den letzten Tagen wurde in meinem Heim viel über die Krise in Griechenland diskutiert. Deutschland ist ein mächtiges Land, in Europa. Jahrzehntelang wurde es immer gesagt und nun hat sich die “Eiserne Kanzlerin” Merkel entschlossen mit dierser Karte zu trumpfen. Was hier getan wurde, und der Welt  als Lösung angeboten wird, ist weiter nichts als ein Krieg mit anderen Mitteln.

Merkel, Schäuble und Co haben sich wie Machtmenschen benommen und nicht wie unsere Beauftragten die Konflikte lösen sollen.  Diese Machtmenschen aber sind nicht voll zurechnungsfähig.Sie haben die europäische Perspektive vollkommen aus ihren Augen verloren. Sie glauben, sie haben…

This picture was taken on Thursday, 21st November 2013, the day after my operation. We were out for ninety minutes. When we arrived back home we soon noticed that our place had been burgled.

On that Thursday we had had breakfast with Caroline and Matthew in our backyard. Little did we know on that beautiful morning that we would be burgled on the same day while we were out for lunch!

The weeks go so quickly. I can’t believe it’s Saturday again. Last Saturday we were at that conference in Sydney. I think on the Saturday before this I went to the swimming pool. Actually I would love to go to the swimming pool again today even if it is a cloudy day with no sun. The water in the pool is always kept at 24C.

I definitely have to go for walks again today whether there’s sun or not. Last Thursday it was pouring. So I missed out on my walk on that day. But Peter drove me to my heart moves class, which was good. Marta. our instructor,  had to cancel.  But lovely Janet was prepared to take her place on short notice.  Janet said Marta had a pinched nerve, I think she mentioned her back. Natural Burial

Although not currently a common practice in Australia, there is a growing interest in natural burials. Natural burial is a process by which the body of a deceased person is interred in the soil in a manner that does not inhibit decomposition and allows the body to recycle naturally. It is seen as an alternative to contemporary Western burial methods.  Subject to State and Local Government rulings, natural burials may take place on both private land and in any cemetery that will accommodate this technique.

The decision for a global lockdown – literally for the collapse of the world economy – was already taken at the WEF conference in Davos, 21 – 24 January 2020.
