I mentioned the Cliff Hanger Cafe already in another blog. We had scones with lovely fresh cream there! It was great to have lunch in a place like this with a beautiful view down to the coast. Can’t believe nearly half a year is gone since this day of driving around in the Illawarra and having lunch at the Cliff Hanger Cafe.

Wednesday in Sydney

For the past six weeks we’ve been travelling to Sydney every Wednesday for my appointments to get my new dentures constructed. As you can guess, to get me proper dentures made is not exactly easy. I seem to have a very difficult mouth! Anyhow, I am hopeful now that all the effort is not in vain and in due time my mouth is going to be all right. 🙂 🙂 🙂
So last Wednesday was the day when we met Matthew and Caroline for lunch. Before we met up with them I had seen my dental technician. After our delicious ice-cream treat we took a bus for a few stops and then we had to walk a bit to reach China-Town. This was where we were about to have our lunch. On the way to China-Town and around China-Town Peter took the following pictures.

From Central Station we caught our train back home to Dapto while Caroline and Matthew were going back to their place in the Eastern suburbs. We were very happy that we had been able to see them on that Wednesday.
Lunch on Sunday

We are the early arrivals at the Restaurant.

Sunday Lunch

This weekend is called ‘Queen’s Birthday Weekend’ here in Australia. This means tomorrow, Monday, is a public holiday.
We were lucky with the weather today. There was plenty of sunshine in the morning. So it was a good day to go out for lunch with our friends who picked us up from home at 10 o’clock. By 2 pm we were back at our place for afternoon coffee and some more talking. It’s always good to see some friends whom we have known for a long time.
The Gossips Coffee Lounge
Peter had to see his eye specialist Friday morning at 10,45. His appointment took more than an hour. In the meantime I had a lovely cup of coffee at the gossips Coffee Lounge.
This is a book that the author Lily Brett signed for Peter and me when we saw her in Berlin. I like to brag about it that we’ve actually seen her in person.
As Peter was driving I happened to notice this sign. So I took a picture of it. Looks like this meal is of good value!
Anyhow, we were on our way home. I was looking forward to cook a bit of lunch at home. While I was cooking lunch I also had to put a frozen cake in the oven to bake in time for my visitors who were expected to arrive at 2 pm.
The pictures tell another story about having had a perfectly blue sky again on this beautiful Friday in the Illawarra.
The potatoes had already been cooked the day before. I just had to peel them and then cut them into pieces, the same with the red onion. I fried all this in some salted butter and then added some eggs and last but not least the baby spinach pieces I still happened to have in the fridge. Just a bit of ground sea salt and pepper. Voila, lunch was finished and tasted good. At least I thought so!
My friends arrived on time and we had our games of Scrabble and Rummy, same as on every Friday. Next Friday we’re going to play at Irene’s place again. Erica won’t be playing for the next six weeks though, for she’s going on an overseas trip.
Come to think of it, we had at least three perfectly sunny days in a row, namely Friday, Saturday and Sunday! And when our daughter came to visit us at the beginning of the week the weather was just wonderful too.
Here now a few pictures with Caroline, our daughter. These pictures were taken at her last visit here. She had to go back to Sydney the following day when we took her to the Dapto train station.

Sunshine
We had wonderful sunshine yesterday at the Illawarra Regional Airport. For our lunch Peter and I as well as Tilde and Klaus had been sitting inside in the restaurant . We decided for coffee we would be sitting outside and maybe try some plane spotting.
We are so lucky: Today, Sunday, we have great sunshine again. Perfectly blue sky and pleasantly warm air. It feels like Indian summer or as they say in Germany “Alt Weiber Sommer” (summer of old women!) It’s late afternoon now and the temperature in the shade is still 26 Celsius. Simply wonderful for this time of the year.
We spent more than three hours yesterday at the airport restaurant. For coffee after lunch we had a really good time sitting outside in the sunshine. Nobody wanted to leave the place. The sun felt so good! We decided in about a month’s time the four of us would meet again for lunch at this restaurant. It’s always great to meet old friends again. We’ve known them since 1959. We came on the same boat together from Germany to Australia.
For good measure I took this picture of the opening hours as well as their website.
And yes, we were able to spot quite a few planes that were coming and going for joy flights with some lucky passengers up and away into the blue sky.
Lunch
- Lunch was really what they call breakfast.

I ordered just scones and tea.
Peter gave me some of his ‘breakfast’ and I shared my scones with him.
The meal was completely satisfying. We didn’t feel like eating any more even though there was a good selection of cakes available.
This lunch was taking place on the day we picked up our hired car in Wollongong. Then we went for a drive up north along the coast till Bald Hill where you have this marvellous view across the ocean. From Bald Hill we went up to the escarpment and found this beaut cafe for our lunch.
Diary
Here’s Bulli Beach again! We had another lovely time there last week on Tuesday. We decided we would stay there for lunch. And of course we had some coffee as well.
From where we were sitting we could look down to the swimming-pool.
Yesterday, that is on Sunday, 7th of April 2013, I opened another “Page”. It’s called Uta’s early Childhood. I was able to retrieve some of my early childhood pictures and published them in this “Page”. I have heaps and heaps more childhood pictures in my album, which is of course ancient. The pictures start with the day of my birth, which was on 21st of September 1934. I have at the moment some difficulties with my scanner. With Peter’s help I may eventually work something out how to do further scanning. However, for the next two weeks or so I can’t do anything about it. It’ll have to wait!
We have plans for the next two weeks! Early on Wednesday, this is the 10th of this month, we’re going to leave for a lovely little holiday in the country. We’re also going to spend some time in Melbourne with our son and his extended family. We are very much looking forward to finally see all the Melburnians again. Also going to see another granddaughter who’s coming to Melbourne from Newcastle during her school holidays. This granddaughter we missed out on seeing a year ago. So we’re glad we can finally see her again.
We plan to be back home on Saturday, 21st of this month.
Lunch Hour in Berlin
Last Day of the Year
I’m a bit late with this post. More than three weeks have already gone into the New Year 2013. Here now I want to document what we did on the last day of 2012! Our day started with a trip to Bondi Junction, where we met our daughter. We had a cup of coffee with Caroline (sorry no photo). Then Caroline had to go shopping. We strolled back to the station. This time to a different entrance to the station, one that we weren’t familiar with yet. A beautiful large rest asrea opened up in front of us. Lots of different food and drinks were on offer at different outlets. In the middle of the plaza some delicious looking (homemade) ice-cream caught our eye. Peter and I each had a cup full of this very refreshing treat. It wasn’t expensive but tasted wonderful. There were plenty of seats everywhere to have a rest. We took the lift down to the platform. Only a few minutes and our train departed. We got off at Town Hall Station.
Later on we looked at the displays of some cake-shops. We were hoping we would find some Berliners. It is our tradition to eat Berliners on New Year’s Eve. We had no luck. We couldn’t find any. We went back to Town Hall Station to catch our train to Dapto. While we were waiting for the train we took some photos. The trip to Dapto took nearly two hours. Some shops in Dapto Shopping Center were already about to close when we arrived there. We knew we had a bottle of Bubbly at home in the fridge for our end of year celebrations. But we were still without any Berliners. I felt a bit tired and was sitting down for a while. In the meantime Peter rushed into another shop that was still open. Surprise, surprise, he came out with some delicious looking Berliners in the form of stars! He got them at half price for they were the last ones that were left! At home we watched “Dinner for One”, which is a tradition with us to watch on New Year’s Eve. It is a sketch about Miss Sophie’s 90th Birthday. Very, very funny! We’ve seen it so often and every time we laugh our heads off again. Peter tried out to take a few pictures from the TV showing Sydney Harbour. At midnight he took also some pictures of the fireworks. Soon after we went to bed. But of course we did have our Bubbly and did eat the heated up little stars with it. They tasted delicious, just as good as the balls, called Berliners, do taste. Of course we did get messages and phone calls from our children before we went to bed, wishing us a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Last Day of the Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
